Re: The Final song of the Day Thread (sometime)
and the two thoughts that are the most angering are a man with old calloused hands and half his pension, and a farmer sellin' his land
and the farmer is the worst part, maybe.... we have in some corners regulated ourselves to poverty, but keeping an eye on what goes into, and onto, our food is one place that cannot be watched carefully enough... how the hell do I know what they're putting on the beans in Guatemala?? or the strawberries in Bolivia? or the lettuce in Chile??
hard for younger people to understand not having this stuff year round, and maybe some of ya remember this... when I was a kid one of the best treats on Christmas morning was a tangerine for each of us in our stocking
dang, I'm old...

oh yes! We had that..and candy...and nuts...and an amazing pair of cross earrings. : )
At our house the kids can open their stockings whenever they wake up. I shop all year for stockings. We open gifts after a theatrically long breakfast. I love christmas!

For those who think I'm just a hard rock classic rock heavy metal heathen...Yeah baby!
But on the other hand, one of my favorites that I listen to fairly often!
The Rose
Some say love it is a river
that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razer
that leaves your soul to blead
Some say love it is a hunger
an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
and you it's only seed
It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of wakingthat never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dyingthat never learns to live
When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winterfar beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose
The Divine Miss M is awesome, no two ways about it.

Re: The Final song of the Day Thread (sometime)
Today's topic is Todd Rundgren. A name that doesn't ring bells and set off alarms like a lot of rock singers, but one who played an important part in R&R history. Todd sang, wrote, produced, mixed, he was a lot of things to a lot of people. Notably he was invited to be a part of the historic tour "Ringo's All Starr Band", if anyone was ever lucky enough to see them perform. My opinion, Todd Rundgren had good musical talent, and one of his hits is detailed below. However, his most important contribution to the rock world was accepting and producing Bat out of Hell, by Meatloaf. That concept album had been in the works for 4 years when he took it on, having been turned down by company after company, because it's sound and style did not fit any of the preconceived notions/categories most were looking for at the time.
So Todd, I thank you, for giving us one of the best albums of all time, even if it wasn't yours.
Back on topic, I give you Todd Rundgren's most played hit in Crockett High School:
Hello, It's Me
Hello, it's me
I've thought about us for a long, long time
Maybe I think too much but something's wrong
There's something here that doesn't last too long
Maybe I shouldn't think of you as mine
Seeing you
Or seeing anything as much as I do you
I take for granted that you're always there
I take for granted that you just don't care
Sometimes I can't help seeing all the way through
It's important to me that you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me
Think of me
You know that I'd be with you if I could
I'll come around to see you once in a while
Or if I ever need a reason to smile
And spend the night if you think I should
kinda strange
The best thing Rundgren ever did: make this possible

both links go to the same place? and who are those guys that introduce him, anyway?
that song that Todd does is also the first one performed by Paul Giamatti in the movie Duets, which I always watch just to see Huey

Re: The Final song of the Day Thread (sometime)
And what can I say about this artist? He's weird, he's funny, he's rich and famous, oh yeah, he's weird
One of the funniest things that comes to mind, is a few years ago, they announced he would be presenting an award at the American Music Awards? (I think) and the guy on tv says; "Don't worry, we will have subtitles for those that don't speak Oz!"
LOL
One of the later works:
Mama, I'm Coming Home
Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I aint the same
Mama, Im
coming home
Times gone by seem to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, Im coming home
You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned aroound
By the fire in your eyes
You made me cry, you told me lies
But I cant stand to say goodbye
Mama, Im coming home
I could be right, I could be wrong
Hurts so bad, its been so long
Mama, Im coming home
Selfish love yeah were both alone
The ride before the fall
But Im gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all
Chorus
Ive seen your face a hundred times
Everyday weve been apart
I dont care about the sunshine, yeah
cause mama, mama, Im coming home
Im coming home
You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes
Not bad =)

Re: The Final song of the Day Thread (sometime)
A little modern rock, group has a good sound, might be interesting to see them live
But anyway, here ya go for the day, Im lazy today and aint looking up any bios or nothing
"Second Chance"
My eyes are open wide
And by the way, I made it
Through the day
I watched the world outside
By the way, I'm leaving out
Today
I just saw Hayley's comet
She waved
Said why you always running
In place?
Even the man in the
Moon disappeared
Somewhere in the
Stratosphere
[Chorus]
Tell my mother,
Tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize
This is my life
I hope they understand
I'm not angry, I'm just saying...
Sometimes goodbye
Is a second chance
Please don't cry
One tear for me
I'm not afraid of
What I have to say
This is my one and
Only voice
So listen close, it's
Only for today
I just saw Hayley's comet
She waved
Said why you always running
In place?
Even the man in the
Moon disappeared
Somewhere in the
Stratosphere
[Chorus]
Tell my mother,
Tell my father
I've done the best I can

I don't talk a lot about these guys, but they are great!! Ranks about 11 on my all time list of favs =)
And the video link at the end is from when they were young, and the drummer still had two arms
Enjoy the
Photograph
I'm outa luck, outa love
Gotta photograph, picture of
Passion killer, you're too much
You're the only one I wanna touch
I see your face every time I dream
On every page, every magazine
So wild and free so far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy
Oh, look what you've done to this rock 'n' roll clown
Oh oh, look what you've done
Photograph - I don't want your
Photograph - I don't need your
Photograph - All I've got is a photograph
But it's not enough
I'd be your lover, if you were there
Put your hurt on me, if you dare
Such a woman, you got style
You make every man feel like a child, oh
You got some kinda hold on me
You're all wrapped up in mystery
So wild so free and far from me
You're all I want, my fantasy
Oh, look what you've done to this rock 'n' roll clown
Oh oh, look what you've done
Photograph - I don't want your
Photograph - I don't need your
Photograph - All I've got is a photograph
You've gone straight to my head

I gotta have you

Re: The Final song of the Day Thread (sometime)
information varies, as always, from source to source.. but Nancy Overton was, at some point, singing this song (she was bass)
for all you young'ns, the guy doing the popping is Andy Williams
she passed away a few days ago up in Blairstown, age 83
Overton, who married jazz pianist/composer/arranger Hall Overton, sang "Nobody's Heart" as a solo vocalist with the Teddy Charles Quartet in 1954. In 1957, Janet Ertel of The Chordettes, though still recording with the group, elected not to continue touring. Ertel was married to Archie Bleyer, the owner of Cadence Records, the group's label. Nancy Overton was invited to appear with The Chordettes for live appearances and did so until the group broke up in the early 1960s. She didn't record with The Chordettes on their label, Cadence Records; however she did appear on some "Stars For Defense" programs. After her husband Hall Overton died in 1972, she retired from show business and worked for Prentice-Hall Publishers as an editorial assistant.
In the early 1990s, The Chordettes regrouped with Overton, Doris Alberti, and original members Lynn Evans and Jean Swain, doing shows ranging from a doo wop concert to touring with Eddy Arnold. A live cassette of a concert in Branson, Missouri was recorded.

I would put on those great jeans...a big smile, no shoes and go for a ride..enjoying any person that came my way.
Now...why, cant each of us do that to some degree today?
For me...the Jeans aren't so great (well it's my butt) ...my feet aren't as tough as they used to be.. and any chosen direction would undoubtedly be toward family members or work.
However..I can still enjoy any person that comes my way!

well guys, as it turns out, you can NOT find everything you want on youtube! went lookin' for the Coasters doing "Smokey Joe's Cafe" and guess what? nobody has it!!
so, in a fit of desperation, what you get is The Coasters singing "Along Came Jones" which, don't get me wrong, is a fine song, but dangit, I wanted Smokey Joe's Cafe

Fell in love with this listening to it play on the Soulharvester flash video
Bittersweet Symphony
Cos' it's a bittersweet symphony this life...
Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to the money then you die.
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down...
You know the one that takes you to the places where all the veins meet, yeah.
No change, I can't change, I can't change, I can't change,
but I'm here in my mold , I am here in my mold.
But I'm a million different people from one day to the next.
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
Well, I never pray,
But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah.
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah.
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now.
But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now.
No change, I can't change, I can't change, I can't change,
but I'm here in my mold , I am here in my mold.
And I'm a million different people from one day to the next
I can't change my mold, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
(Well have you ever been down?)
